So, What's an AGA Wannabe?

Quite simple, really.  A wannabe is someone who enjoys the look and style of the AGA, someone who covets the cooking experience of the AGA, but does not, sadly, own one.  Sure, there are plenty of things a wannabe can do to while away his time while looking hopefully forward to some far future day when his AGA-less state will come to an end, but the fact remains that even all of those activities fall short of the reality of actually owning an AGA.  If you're not, or have never been, a wannabe, you'll never fully understand the longing.  If you currently are a wannabe, you don't care about anybody else's longing because you're too busy wanting an AGA yourself.  If you're an AGA owner, shame on you if you haven't invited one of your AGA-less brethren to share for a few hours in the bounty of your fortune!  You, above all others, know the depth of the longing.....

So why don't you just get one and shut up?

A reasonable question, but one with many answers....some of them quite obvious.  Wannabe's go without the object of their affection for many reasons:

Lack of sufficient funds to purchase the item

Lack of space in one's current kitchen to accommodate the item

Lack of an actual home in which to put a kitchen to accommodate the item

Lack of sufficient funds to purchase the item

Primary residence is  in a tropical region

Primary residence could/will change within the next ten years

Primary source of income insufficient to support the purchase of the item

Significant other is completely unwilling to consider a non-traditional cooker

Significant shortage of funds

I'm sure there are lots of other reasons that have not made the list.  If you have one that you think should be put on, let me know.

Things to do while you're waiting...

OK, so you're a wannabe....what are you going to do until the day finally arrives when you resolve all the obstacles between you and your AGA destiny? Well, here are a few ideas:

Play "How would I cook this in an AGA?" every time you prepare a meal

Try to cook almost everything in your oven

Browse the web looking for new sources of AGA information

Hang around the major bookstore chains waiting for the latest British home magazines

Buy an AGA cookbook from the same bookstore
Find pictures of AGA cookers, scan them, and email them to me....(I'll post them to the site)
Take daily temperature measurements of your kitchen, then add 2 degrees
Go over what the floor plan will look like when the AGA arrives...again
Thumb through the brochure you got at the product demonstration....again
Join an email group and commiserate with other wannabes...
Wisely invest your money
